As full time missionaries we represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on our mission. Our blog represents our own personal experiences. The official website of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is: https://www.lds.org/?lang=eng (click twice)
SIGNS AND MURALS AND EVEN ADVERTISEMENTS TELL US A LOT
ABOUT PEOPLE AND ABOUT COMMUNITIES
SO DOES NATURE
WE SERVE OUR MISSION IN SOMEWHAT REMOTE AREAS OF ONTARIO AND QUEBEC. THE COUNTRYSIDE IS ROUGH AND RUGGED AND THE PEOPLE, LIKEWISE, ARE ROUGH AND RUGGED, INDEPENDENT AND FRIENDLY.
WHERE WE SERVE THERE IS LOTS OF DIVIRSITY WHICH INCLUDES FARMING, MINING, LOGGING, TOURISM, HUNTING, RELIGION, EDUCATION, FISHING AND LOTS OF SUMMER AND WINTER SPORTS. LOADS OF WILDERNESS, NARROW ROADS, LAKES AND STREAMS AND BOGS AROUND EVERY TURN OF THE ROAD. BEAUTIFUL NATURE WITH REMOTE FARMS AND SMALL VILLIAGES AND TOWNS SCATTERED IN BETWEEN.
THERE'S ICE FISHING, CHORD WOOD STACKED BY MOST HOMES, BEAR HUNTING, CLOTHES LINES FULL OF THE DAYS WASH, HUTS AT THE END OF THE LANE FOR KIDS TO STAY WARM IN 30 BELOW WAITING FOR THE SCHOOL BUS, MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF SNOW AND COLD IN THE WINTER, THE OCCASSIONAL MOOSE CROSSING THE ROAD, BLACK FLIES AND MOSQUITOS IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER, KAYAK RACES, A TOWN CALLED SWASTIKA, MINE WORKERS, FISHING BOATS, NARROW WINDING ROADS GENERALLY NOT IN TIP TOP REPAIR, WIDOWS AND AMPUTATIONS DUE TO THE MINES AND LOGGING, HEAVY EQUIPMENT WORKING OR BEING MOVED AND LARGE TRUCKS FILLING THE ROADS WITH LARGE CARGOS AND EQUIPMENT, LOTS OF ELDERLY, FEWER CHILDREN AND TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS AND YOUNG FAMILIES WHICH THEY COULD USE, PEOPLE WHO THINK NOTHING OF TRAVELING A FEW HOURS FOR A DOCTORS OR DENTIST APPOINTMENT OR TO GO SHOPPING. AND PEOPLE WHO WOULD DO ANYTHING TO HELP YOU.
THERE'S TONS OF HISTORY FROM FIRST NATIONS, FRENCH/ENGLISH SETTLERS, FUR TRADING, AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY, MISSIONARIES, GOLD/SILVER MINING, TRAGEDIES, HOPES AND DREAMS OF THE PEOPLE. PEOPLE HERE TEND TO BE SELF RELIANT REGARDLESS OF HEALTH ISSUES, AGING, INFIRMITIES OR RESISTANCE. THERE IS A STRONG SENSE OF COMMUNITY IN SPITE OF HOW REMOTE VILLIAGES, TOWNS AND FARMS CAN BE FROM EACH OTHER OR HOW MUCH TRAVEL THERE CAN BE TO ACCESS SERVICES.
IT WOULD TAKE THOUSANDS OF WORDS TO DESCRIBE THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE, THE AMBIANCE, THE LIFESTYLES AND THE GLORIES OF NATURE WHERE WE SERVE. PICTURES CAN SAY MORE.
Pictures were taken on our way to and from where ever we were going in the process of serving.
ENJOY THE SIGNS AND MURALS THAT TELL A LITTLE ABOUT THE PEOPLE, THE COMMUNITY AND THE LIFESTYLES WHERE WE SERVE. AND SCROLL FURTHER TO SEE SOME OF THE BEAUTIES OF NATURE WE SEE EVERY DAY!
